MAGAZINE LAYOUT DRAFTS

I used Publisher and Powerpoint to create some rough layout designs for each of my magazine pages. This helped me to get an idea as to where I should locate certain features of the page and to thunk about sizing and spacial awareness. I added in fonts from Dafont and images from the internet that are linked to Alternative/ Rock artists to create a sense of what each finished page would look like.

DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD:

Design 1

lots of space for text but images will get squashed.

Design 2

Head line and stand first are in a good place but the text looks too much.

Design 3

Theres enough room for text and the image but I may need to remove the third column of text and have the image taking up the whole side of the right page.

Design 4

The headline being on the 2nd page may confuse readers.

Design 5

Every element across the pages has enough room.

Design 6

I made the left image consume the whole page to look more interesting.

FINAL DESIGN:

I have chosen this layout as my final double page spread design, although I probably will make some adjustments to it, like changing the position of the pull quote. This is because I think that the space has been used well and it will give me the opportunity to edit the headline behind my solo artist which will make the page look more interesting and modern. As well as this, I have not over crowded the page with text columns so that readers don't get bored if there is too much writing.

CONTENTS PAGE:

Design 1

I have included a lot of space for images, meaning the page might look cluttered.

Design 2

I like the rotated photos and think there is enough space for text.

Design 3

Using a photo for the background makes the page more full and interesting.

Design 4

The image I have used for the background makes it difficult to add text.

Design 5

This layout is very simplistic and not interesting, the image sizes need to be changed.

FINAL DESIGN:

I have chosen this layout design to base my real contents page on because although it is quite simple, it provides the right amount of space for both text and images. I am also able to fit in my magazines mast head, and the date and issue number, at the top of the page without it looking over crowded. However, I am going to make some small changes to this design so that it looks more professional and interesting.

FINAL DESIGN:

I have found a magazine from cover from Q magazine to base the layout of my own front cover on. I think this layout is effective because all of the information is clear and I like the positioning on the main cover line and the magazines mast head.
